How do I use the Shell Tool?

The Shell tool allows you to create meshes specific for 3D printing. It can also create a trim line flare for your positive models.

The Shell tool has two major functions. The first is to create a 'Shell Region' which can be downloaded and 3D printed. The second is to create a 'Flare' at your proximal trim lines.

Shell Region for 3D Printing

The [Shell Region] option was made for 3D printing! Simply select the region you want to print, create a shell, and download the mesh to send to your printer.

Step 1: Click the [Select Region] tool.

Step 2: Left-click on the mesh to select the region you want to print.

Step 3: Click the [Shell] tool.

Step 4: Specify the thickness of the shell and click the [Shell Region] button. This will create a new mesh with smoothed edges.

Note - Toggle the 'Smooth Trim Lines' option off to keep any rough edges.

Step 5: Click the [Download] button and select the appropriate file format for your printer.

Flare for Trim Lines

The [Flare] option allows you to create a ridge around the selected area. This is particularly useful for creating ridges at your trim lines for positive models.

Step 1: Click the [Select Region] tool.

Step 2: Left-click on the mesh to select the region where you want to leave a ridge.

Step 3: Click the [Shell] tool.

Step 4: Specify the thickness of the ridge and click the [Flare] button. This will create a ridge at the proximal.

Note - Toggle the 'Proximal Flare Only' option off to create a ridge around the whole area.
